Late one recent afternoon, Cindia and I took a trip out to Kerley’s Barbecue, a Lexington staple since the seventies. Some decent barbecue, fantastic hushpuppies, and an overall good, filling meal were the result.

From the “Sound Horn for Service” sign on the oversized outdoor menu to the cleaver-wielding fiberglass pig beckoning from the doorway, Smiley’s on Winston Road is the quintessential Lexington barbecue restaurant.
Despite the clear instructions for curb service, my significant other and I chose to go inside and sit in the main dining room when we visited the well-known establishment for the very first time last week – we’re both native Lexingtonians but, as Cindia said in her post on Lexington Style Trimmings, everyone has their Q joint of choice and Lexington Barbecue is ours.
On Sunday, Zachary and I got a chance to check out Lexington Style Trimmings, or LST. Back in May 2010 we wrote a little piece about a restaurant Henry James Family Dining. If you didn’t get a chance to check it out I’ll sum up the experience for you: It sucked. Anyways, we were left a comment by Stephen Lynch that LST was one of the best BBQ places in town. We got some follow up commentary that agreed and there was mention of amazing hushpuppies. Stephen said if we weren’t satisfied with our food, then lunch was on him. I’m happy to report that Stephen, you can keep your money.
